This goal has a lot to do with the execution of the other goals. If students feel like they are valued and that they are growing, they are more likely to be active and engaged in the classroom. I have found that keeping in touch with students helps them stay connected to the class. Besides that, in every feedback I provide, I try to ensure that I mention at least one positive aspect or area that I have seen them grow. In this way, students not only feel validated, but they are encouraged to keep participating.

One aspect that I want to develop further is to have more opportunities for students to connect with one another outside of discussion boards. In the spring of 2023, I hope to implement ways for students to do this via Zoom. Since meetings are optional in the courses I help teach, it's hard to force students to turn up and participate. Regardless, I will be experimenting to see what can be done!
